Before you start: open the current VOID studio in a modern browser. These instructions describe the development release and use locally generated demonstration audio in screenshots.

Before you turn it on
Compression changes the relationship between louder and quieter moments. It may help a track feel more controlled, but it can also reduce punch or exaggerate background detail. Decide what the music needs before enabling the module.
01 / Find the controls
In Advanced mode, open the manual chain and locate Dynamics. The threshold determines where processing begins, while ratio controls its strength. Attack and release affect how quickly the processor responds and recovers. Knee changes how gradually the compression enters.
02 / Listen to timing
Use a representative loud passage. Adjust one parameter at a time and listen to the beginning of drum hits, the sustain of bass notes and the space between phrases. Excessive or poorly timed processing may sound flattened or cause audible level movement.
03 / Compare without a level trick
Makeup gain changes the output level after compression. A louder result can appear better during a quick comparison, so use matched comparison and bypass checks. Check quiet passages too: a setting that suits a chorus may be distracting in an intro.
When the balance feels right, render and inspect the checked result. If you cannot describe an improvement, bypassing the module is a valid decision.
